Reflections on a Challenge Met...With Gratitude...

Year 3
A year
devoid of ideas
and empty of words.
Things I have discovered
on this tenacious path…

Poetry soothes and
allows me to express
in a way that Essay,
so natural to me,
does not.
I want to learn more.

When there is a story,
there is most likely—
a back-story.
Or a story within a
story
to infer
to understand.
It is here that wisdom
waits.

Word play is one of my “funs”
I enjoy finding the right word—
Playing with words.
Finding the nuance.
Manipulating.
Concentrating.
Contemplating,
to choose the just right
one.

Writing within a community
brings wisdom,
laughter
poignancy and
friendship.
Connecting with words
across Ether-net
and miles between.
We join for
a cup of coffee
and share
a smile,
a tear.

Words become
with writerly practice.
Dormant
to bud
to bloom.
Writing…one word by one
We become.
I become.

Thank you to Two Writing Teachers for dedicating space and time for teachers and teachers of literacy to come together to share ideas, practice and life experience.

  1. I like that 'dormant to bud to bloom', Deborah. It's a lovely reflection of all that we did this month. Happy writing!

  4. I loved the back story idea to poetry because it is so true. You only get a few words to tell the tale so every choice is deliberate. The tenacious path grabbed my attention immediately. You were not devoid of ideas, ideas blossomed under your authorship and they will continue. Write on!

  6. Your eloquent celebratory piece contains many powerful messages Deborah. As one who relishes word play I found these words resonated strongly with me:

Thank you for your considered contributions and responses across a marvellous month of writing.

  7. SOLs seem to help us reveal, name back stories. I agree with you that poetry allows for expressions that are particular, necessary, breath-like. I get a sense that the dormant to bloom metaphor is larger than a seasonal nod. Your writing speaks to the largeness of discovery. I wish you well, friend.
