NOT SO MUCH THE CHALLENGE…IT IS THE QUEST

Today I am celebrating feedback.  I am celebrating a focus on others’ words as a way to feed me.  I am a first time blogging…visiting others sites as part of a “first time blogger challenge.”  Challenge taken, but, you know, it really isn’t about the challenge, is it?  It is about the quest.  The quest through so many daily blog sites.  Taking time to venture into those spaces unknown to me.  Time well spent.  I see the scope of writers, all sharing their truth.  Their lives.  Their loves.  And I get to witness that beauty.  To receive ideas that I may later remake into my own.  Poetry, lists, stories, heartbreak, inspiration, silliness.  All within the boundaries of this challenge.  All offering of themselves by showing their space through a slice.  And I get to respond.  A quest that has turned into gift.  Today I am celebrating feedback.

  1. I love these words about the quest - "I see the scope of writers, all sharing their truth. Their lives. Their loves. And I get to witness that beauty. " Thanks for sharing your thinking about feedback. It's a wonderful gift we give to each other as slicers.

  2. I'm so glad to meet up with new bloggers who are basking in the power of the experience. I like that Deborah... the quest... yes.
Enjoy the last week of this quest and remember there's TUesday Slices to keep it going.

  3. The feedback has been an incredible experience for me during these three weeks and I will think differently about Writer's Workshop because of it. Great reflective post.

  4. Yes, while I always thought I knew the power of feedback, it was not until last year, my first time slicing, that the power was really understood. Since last March, I have looked at student feedback under a very different lens.
When I challenged my grad students to write, they looked at me like I was crazy....but they did...and their understanding of writing has grown to a level I could never have imagined. As Donald Graves noted long ago, we need real purposes and audiences to write.....thanks to the TWT, we now all REALLY know what he meant!

  5. Thanks for stopping by my site on your quest. I like that there are so many ideas that we may remake into our own. That and the community of writers and support we give each other.

  7. It's a beginning for you, Deborah & you've jumped in with such wonderful enthusiasm. You received some interesting 'feedback' yesterday for sure-such a provocative post! And now today, using the word "quest"-terrific. I hope you'll continue on Tuesdays!

  8. I hope that you continue with us in the journey/quest. Your stories have moved, touched and challenged me. Exploring our voices and leaning in to hear the voice in each other drives me. xo

  9. I agree. This is my first time doing the Slice Challenge. I had dabbled at blogging but was sporatic at best. I have enjoyed the span of posts that are written everyday...as you said...all types of emotions felt...from prose to all types of poetry. The feedback has been like the icing as it encourages me to write another post because...there are some people out there who have really read what I have written. 11. I'm enjoying the quest as well this weekend. The real prize is reading the variety of writing and sharing in the feedback. It has been such a powerful experience. I am already thinking about how to share it with my students.

  12. What a lovely post! I am doing exactly the same thing today, venturing into new blogs and marveling at the way in which so many writers participate in the "offering of themselves by showing their space through a slice."

  13. I love this post because you've captured the essence of what the commenting challenge is REALLY about. This SOLSC really is a quest in so many ways. Quest. Love that word.

  14. I spend much more time reading and commenting than I do even on my posts! Thanks for celebrating this aspect of the SOLC.

  16. I hope you discovered some great writers along the way! I hope to do the same before the challenge is over. I missed the formal window of opportunity, but that's okay. I think visiting everyone is half the fun and purpose here. Spring break is coming!!
